A Look Around Room 5
Welcome to Room 5!  The home of Mrs.
Coulouris' Young Five Kindergarteners.
The supply table is where the children
find everything they will need to complete
the days work.  Pencils, crayons, markers,
scissors, glue sticks, and their supply box.
 Room 5 is lucky
to have some
special
carpet...this area
is used for our
morning message
and phonics
lessons.
   The calendar and
weather area teach many
beginning math and
science skills.  Place
value is easy to learn
when Zero helps.  Zero is
a regular visitor to our
room.  He is "Zero The
Hero", he's come to help
us today.  He's Zero The
Hero!
  Science is always fun
with children.  The topics
center around plants and
animals and how they grow.
The front area of the room holds the very important
clues for letters, sounds, and spelling patterns.
The morning message teaches punctuation, letter
formation and sentence structure on the shared writing
tablet.  Shared reading, rhyming words and word
families are explored in lots of good literature.
Our chicka-chicka-boom-boom coconut tree
is the cornerstone for our classroom library.
A fun and relaxing place to read a favorite
book or look at interesting pictures in
Zoobook or Ranger Rick magazines.
The Word Wall and Writing Table are two
important locations in our room during Kid
Writing time.  It is here that the children find
many of the words that come up frequently in
their writing.  It is important for children to
understand that adults don’t know how to spell
everyword and it is OK to copy words that we
are learning.
Whether it is Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star
or She’ll Be Coming 'round the Mountain,
the children love to sing!
Exciting things begin to happen when the
instrument basket comes out.  Ah…the
sound of jingling bells, clashing cymbals
and bongo drums.
Snack Time!!  Wow, it there a more powerful phrase
than that?  Can you still remember having milk and
graham crackers in Kindergarten?
Mrs. Coulouris enjoys a comfortable work
area with internet access and a never
ending supply of happy notes.
Each morning the children find their journals
or another morning activity waiting for them at
their work table, along with a name practice
page.
The journals are used for Kid Writing.  This
is Mrs. Coulouris' favorite part of the day.
After completing any practice papers at their
tables, the children then move to practice
centers.
